Summary: This webinar will go over the principles, technical aspects and clinical indications of upper & lower extremity needle EMG and nerve conduction studies. The presentation will include a general introduction to the EMG test, equipment used and a review of the anatomy and technical aspects of upper and lower extremity nerves and muscles. The nerve conduction presentation will go over the anatomy and technical aspects of sensory and motor nerve conductions as well as F-wave and H-reflex studies. The needle exam section will review the general principles of needle electrode insertion, muscle localization and activation procedures to study motor unit potentials. Normal insertional activity, endplate potentials, fibrillations and positive waves and motor unit study techniques will all be described by morphology and video recordings. There will be a discussion of the findings encountered in common conditions referred to the EMG Lab for upper & lower extremity nerve conduction and needle EMG studies.

At the end of the webinar, commonly used CPT codes for upper and lower extremity nerve conduction and needle exam billing will be discussed.
